Match Report

Gornal battled injury setbacks to come from behind and earn another three points on the road.

The Peacocks suffered an early blow as Callum Lloyd had to be replaced in the opening minutes by Josh Godwin following a late challenge on the defender inside his own penalty area.

The first real chances of the game fell to Gornal as Nathan Jones struck a shot on goal that would sting the hands of the Wyrley goalkeeper before Jordon Sangha’s shot from distance was lifted over the crossbar.

But it was Wyrley that opened the scoring with a venomous strike from outside the box that gave Callum Stokes no chance as it nestled in the top left corner of the net.

More bad luck would befall Gornal as injury to Adam Callinswood would enforce a second change immediately following the opening goal of the game. TJ Davies replaced Callinswood as Gornal went in search of an equaliser.

The game offered up few chances for the remainder of the first half until close to the break when Ethan Dalaney’s header crashed off the crossbar and fell kindly to Nathan Guest to calmly tap in and send the sides into the break on even terms.

Gornal were much improved in the second half as a host of chances highlighted their growing control of the game. Their first threat to take the lead was a Bradley Maslen-Jones free kick that would fly just wide of the left post.

Pressure began to build as Wyrley struggled the deal with Gornal’s attack. Ethan Delaney made an opportunity for himself as he turned on the edge of the box and fired a low drive that would also go wide.

It was Gornal’s Man of the Match Nathan Guest that would eventually break the deadlock. First going close with a strike from distance before rising minutes later to head home Jordon Sangha’s corner and give Gornal a deserved lead.

The Peacocks didn’t let up and remained on the front foot. A third goal came out of nothing as Ethan Delaney found the ball at his feet in the box which he coolly dribbled around the keeper to slot home.

It was Gornal who controlled the second half, restricting Wyrley to very few opportunities as the game petered out, securing another valuable three points despite the setbacks of the first half.
