First Half Blitz Defeats Willenhall
By Ashley Davies
Ryan Piggott netted a hat trick as Gornal ran out comfortable victors against the basement side in Division One
Gornal won last night's game on a first half of dominance that actually started with a Willenhall opportunity and Mark Habbershaw who'd been a late signing for the visitors sent a corner wide of the post early doors.
Gornal weren't so wasteful early on as Ryan Piggott took ten minutes to punish the bottom side after Liam Morris shot was parried Piggott got to the loose ball and finished from the tightest of angles to open the scoring.
Gornal then proceeded to dominate territory throughout the half a few corners came to nothing, Ash Green made a smart save with his legs before Willenhall made a double change which actually improved their play and saw them as a slightly bigger threat.
The lead doubled on 31' when Gornal countered wonderfully, again, Piggott picked the ball up and ran at and past Willenhall the rest was easy enough a calm finish high into the net was all that was needed to make his brace.
Two minutes later the contest was over with Aaron Weston having a pop shot from 20 yards it went through the keepers hands and nestled into the far corner via the post. That took all wind out of any Willenhall sail.
Ash Green had to make another leg save before Oliver Hartland sent a volley inches wide and then forced a low down save from the keeper.
That brought half time wind a comfortable half for the hosts as both sides went into the break in very different moods.
The second half saw Willenhall revitalised somewhat and they certainly had some more intent to their play but lacked any really quality to hurt Gornal who had a chance through Myles Hall held.
Willenhall thought they were back in it when Connor Fellows headed in a g the back post and that got the Willenhall bench shouting again.
Gornal returned to their three goal advantage when Piggott got on the end of a Hartland cross to slide home. That really did spark Willenhall in giving up with the bench and subs abusing Ash Green.
The game restarted and Willenhall manager Matt Fisher was sent to the stands for his reaction to an offside call.
The game petered out at 4-1 with Gornal content with their evenings work ahead of a trip to Newport Town on Saturday
